In this episode I’m chatting about all things tiny home and sustainable living with conservationist Molly Doubleday. If you are in need of some minimalist living inspiration then give this a listen.

There’s a lot a misconceptions about minimalism
We start by talking about Molly’s experiences as a conservationist and the different roles she has had, including her current role observing endangered native bird species the capercaillie (I hadn’t heard of them either!). Molly also spent several months working on the very isolated Farne Islands, which are a haven for seabirds.
It becomes addictive
Molly has gradually adopted a minimalist lifestyle and we talk about how intentional living has allowed her to develop her dream life living simply and sustainably in the highlands of Scotland.
Molly and her partner are in the process of building a tiny home. Tiny house living has become a big movement in the US and Australia but less so in the UK so we discuss what tiny home living is about and what Molly’s tiny home will look like. Molly’s tiny home will be as sustainable as possible but she acknowledges that sometimes it’s ok to compromise.
If you want it enough you can make it work
Our discussion inevitably leads to a discussion about mortgages and debt and how tiny home living but also intentional living can help people move to a debt-free lifestyle. Molly is committed to her values, one of which is to live a free life and reducing debt is a big part of that.
As part of living a more intentional life Molly has created a mission statement setting out the guiding principles for her life. Core to this is redefining what success means and understanding what really matters to you.
We also discuss the little things that make a difference when it comes to sustainability, especially the basics that often get forgotten like turning the lights off and using what you already have.

You can’t be perfect because the system isn’t perfect
We finish by chatting about the frustrations of trying to buy vegan and plastic-free foods and how often the environmental choice isn’t easy and it can be very difficult for consumers.
