A little story about how a year ago I was starting on the long road to recovery from hip surgery

Living in constant pain is miserable and debilitating and yet it's often dismissed. I was lucky enough to have an incredible physio who diagnosed the underlying problems. Unfortunately the first consultant I saw was incredibly dismissive and told me there was no solution for my pain.

I had to search out a consultant who took my pain seriously and helped me to decide on the best course of action.

And the operation I had isn't a complete fix either. Since surgery I've had to have further injections to deal with pain flare ups. There's still the possibility that I still need surgery for my hip dysplasia in future and I have to no got too hard on my hip to avoid further tears.

But I'm feeling positive. And looking back on how far I've come helps too.

What an awesome day at @fictionfestuk

I met so many incredible people but shout outs to @maggiegrantauthor @philippayoungauthor @dani_is_writing @authormoniquemedved for being especially lovely and chatting all things publishing.

I came away with way more books than I intended (especially after winning a stack of books in one of the sessions including the not yet released The Night Bus by @tessabickerswrites)

I think I'm still shaking slightly from pitching Running to You at the pitch session but I hope that people are interested in Diana and Alex's story.

On an absolute high and more determined than ever to get my books out into the world.

I debated whether to post this because it's still pretty raw but I also know that if someone had shared this with me 12 months ago I would probably have been diagnosed sooner.

Last weekend I had a complete social burnout.

Not because I had been burning the candle at both ends (actually the opposite) but because a week of high emotion, high masking and a lot of meetings, phone calls and other interactions built to the point where my body pretty much shut down.

It's not the first time this has happened and I doubt it will be the last (but at least through ACBT I'm working on that). And it's exhausting. I hate it. And I hate that often it's difficult to fully recognise it until it hits.

So yes my brain can be amazing at solving problems, but that's not much good when I'm too burnout to function. Definitely not a superpower!

I hadn't even heard of Bookfest UK which took place in Bradford this week until a friend sent me a link.

There were so many books it was difficult at first to find things I would enjoy. But I also could have come away with far more than I did!

Scarier than a rollercoaster?

This week I pulled on my big girl pants and revisited the manuscript that I've been ignoring for the longest time.

Because getting it ready for querying or publishing would mean getting vulnerable with my writing and sharing it with people I don't know. And for the longest time I haven't been ready to do that.

But with the help of my amazing friends, this week I took what I have, pulled it apart and put it back together as something I feel comfortable to query (I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm confident, because querying is a pretty rough ride from what I've heard).

So here's to doing hard things and keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that I receive a full request 🤞

I had this plan for 2026 that I was going to be on it when it came to social media.

Embrace the chaos and just post what I feel like.

Turns out that results in me leaving things in my drafts for days.

So here's a snapshot of January so far. The days have been short, full and frankly I'm exhausted!

But I think that's ok on these darker days. One thing I'm learning about my neurospicy brain is that committing to too much is setting myself up to fail.

Is there anything better than snuggling up with spicy romance on a cold December night? These are the books I tend to reread every year:

A Yorkshire Christmas / Falling for Christmas by Kate Hewitt - I actually have these as a single book so I read them together. Both closed door but super cosy with lots of snowed in vibes.

Real Tree / Fake Boyfriend - a spicy MM with fake dating, family drama and a hint of Mafia. What's not to love!

How to Lose a Guy Before Christmas by AJ Pine - I love these Audible exclusives released each year and set in the Christmassy town of Tinsel. This is a great place to jump in.

The Christmas Star by Kate Forster - I feel like this was written for all the girlies who grew up in Hugh Grant's leading man era. Again closed door but filled with family drama and short enough to devour in a single sitting.
