Welcome! I’m Rebecca – by day, a solicitor specialising in commercial law for the health sector, and by night (and any other spare moment I can find), an avid writer with a passion for contemporary romance.
Despite spending countless hours every day writing legal documents, honing my skills in clear, concise communication, I never considered myself a “writer”. It was only through the joys and challenges of motherhood and in particular navigating being a first time mum when the world went into lockdown, that I found my voice. I decided to start a blog and a podcast in 2020.
And while I read many romance novels in those long nights breastfeeding my daughter, the idea of writing one myself seemed so out of reach. Writing fiction was something other people did.
But in January 2024, I finally put pen to paper (or more accurately, created a Google Doc) and started writing my first novel. The characters in my head were too insistent to ignore, and before I knew it, their story had taken shape on the page. What began as a simple idea quickly blossomed into a full-fledged narrative, complete with complex characters and steamy romance.
Once I embraced the idea of being a writer, there was no turning back. I stopped letting doubt stifle my creativity and granted myself the freedom to explore the stories in me that were yearning to be told. I write characters who are messy and complicated and who I can’t help falling in love with. It is their stories that drive the narratives in my writing and while my stories lead to happily ever afters (because who doesn’t love a HEA?), they’re not without their share of twists, turns, and bumps along the road.
My writing process is probably helped by the fact I am a pantser, which suits my method of snatching precious moments throughout the day to write on my phone – sandwiched between my full-time job and the joyous intensity of life as a mum of two young children. Most of my brainstorming (usually in the form of conversations between my characters) happens while I’m out running in the hilly South Pennines where I live.
I’ve lived in Yorkshire for the past 15 years (with a brief stint in London) but I am a Cornish girl born and bred. I hate living so far from the sea, which is probably why I jump into rivers, lakes and reservoirs at any opportunity to enjoy a wild swim. It’s these diverse environments that inspire the strong sense of place that permeates my writing – from rugged coastlines to rolling hills, each setting comes alive on the page.
